That sounds very similar to what the “angry”places in Mongolia are. And I am not gonna lie, once we were driving in a crazy snowstorm at 3000m altitude, and we were inching. The driver wasn’t sure we would make it, but he didn’t voice his concern and I was chill about it 😂🤣 so behind us there was this insane mountain range, basically sand and sharp rocks like knives sticking out. It gave me an eery feeling, not just bc of the admittedly evil look of it & asked tbe driver if it was a “khairhan” . He was visibly upset and later told me never to mention these again, especially not neat them.
As for the black magic, from what I know it is more of a syncretic, regional belief system. These would be deemed “black” by the new, bigger religions. I would wager it is a mix of animistic beliefs, some scary , strange customs and buddhism l. One example is meditating with poisonous snakes in the same big cage
