Bookstores have such a precious atmosphere, that they won't become obsolete anytime soon. I think by becoming more niche, or offering something different than just a huge bookstore with neon lights is key.

Old library-like stores like the ones in Europe, or the labyrinth of "The last bookstore" in LA, Book espresso machines in NYC where you print a book on demand are all great ways to draw in book lovers.
